Education

The JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mauritius (JSSAHERM), marked a significant milestone on November 8, 2025, by successfully hosting its 2nd Convocation Ceremony. Held at the MITD Lecture Theatre in Phoenix, the event served to celebrate the hard-earned academic achievements of its graduating students.

Hon Anil Kumar Bachoo, Minister of Health and Wellness, attended as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by the Hon Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, along with JSSAHERM’s leadership, including Professor (Dr) Praveen Mohadeb, CEO and Vice Chancellor. Also present were key figures from the Indian High Commission, the Pharmacy Council of Mauritius, the Dental Council of Mauritius, and the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre.

In his address, Minister Bachoo paid tribute to the institution’s founding, noting that His Holiness Swamiji established the JSS Academy in 2002 at the request of the late Indian PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He commended the academy for its notable contribution in producing highly skilled engineers and pharmacists. Furthermore, the Junior Minister expressed deep gratitude for JSSAHERM’s continuous collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, particularly through training, research initiatives, health camps, and community outreach.

CEO & Vice Chancellor Dr Mohadeb highlighted the academy’s rapid expansion and impact on the nation’s healthcare sector. He announced the soon-to-be-launched MBBS programme, which joins a portfolio of 16 programmes now on offer.

Degrees were formally conferred upon students across two faculties — the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Management Studies — for programmes including the Bachelor of Pharmacy and the Masters of Business Administration (Hospital Administration). Ms Wahidna Salvi Fatimah was honoured with the Academic Excellence Award for her remarkable accomplishments.

JSSAHERM, established in 2018 and granted degree-awarding powers in 2020, has achieved remarkable growth in just five years, with all 16 programmes fully approved and accredited by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Mauritius.Notably, its B Pharm and Pharm D programmes have secured pre-accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) of the USA, guaranteeing international standards of quality.
