Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Mauritius Branch has marked seven decades of service in Mauritius with the celebration of LIC Day 2026, combining a reflection on its long-standing contribution with a significant step towards digital transformation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The celebrations, held at the LIC Mauritius Branch in Port Louis, marked the 70th anniversary of LIC, established in India on 1 September 1956. LIC also established its presence in Mauritius that same year and has since built a longstanding relationship with Mauritian policyholders based on trust, service and financial security.<\/span><\/p>\n

The occasion was attended by Shri Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, who was the Chief Guest, along with senior officials, employees, agents and other stakeholders.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main highlight was the inauguration by the High Commissioner of LIC Mauritius\u2019s new Digital Premium Payment Facility. The initiative is intended to provide policyholders with a more convenient way of paying their premiums while reducing the need for branch visits.<\/span><\/p>\n

The digitalisation drive is set to go further. LIC Mauritius said it will soon introduce online premium payment facilities through its official website and mobile application, giving customers greater flexibility and easier access to routine services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Srivastava highlighted the deep and enduring relationship between India and Mauritius, encompassing historical, cultural, economic and people-to-people ties. He also acknowledged the contribution of Indian public-sector institutions operating in Mauritius, particularly organisations such as LIC, to the strengthening of bilateral relations.<\/span><\/p>\n

He commended LIC Mauritius for its continued emphasis on modernisation, digital transformation and customer-focused services, and wished the organisation continued success.<\/span><\/p>\n

From insurance to financial security<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Mr G. C. Bhatt, General Manager, LIC Mauritius, recalled the remarkable journey of LIC and its evolution into a global insurance institution.<\/span><\/p>\n

LIC is today India\u2019s largest life insurance company, with an international presence in 14 countries. According to the Brand Finance Insurance 100 \u2013 2026 Report, LIC is the world\u2019s second-strongest insurance brand, with an AAA+ brand strength rating.<\/span><\/p>\n

The organisation also holds a Guinness World Records\u2122 title for the most life insurance policies sold in 24 hours, after selling 588,107 policies on 20 January 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese achievements are a matter of pride. But behind every number is a family, a customer and a promise,\u201d Mr Bhatt said, stressing that the trust of policyholders remains LIC\u2019s greatest achievement.<\/span><\/p>\n

He noted that life insurance goes beyond selling policies. It is about protecting families, supporting children\u2019s education, encouraging long-term savings, planning for retirement and providing financial confidence for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

C<\/strong>hanging customer expectations<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, changing customer expectations are driving LIC Mauritius towards greater digitalisation. Customers increasingly seek speed, convenience, transparency, digital access and personalised service, making innovation and technology central to the organisation\u2019s future strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n

LIC Mauritius was also recognised at the Insurance Association of Mauritius Industry Awards 2026, receiving the Product and Service Innovation of the Year \u2013 Life Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

For LIC Mauritius, the 70th anniversary was both a celebration of its past and a statement of intent for the future. After seven decades of service, the organisation is seeking to combine its enduring values of trust, customer welfare and financial protection with technology and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The launch of the digital premium payment facility\u2014and the forthcoming online payment service through its website and mobile application\u2014signals another milestone in that journey: bringing LIC\u2019s legacy of trust into the digital age.<\/span><\/p>\n
