{"id":41676,"date":"2024-11-15T18:58:48","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T14:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mauritiustimes.com\/mt\/?p=41676"},"modified":"2024-11-15T18:58:48","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T14:58:48","slug":"the-democrats-want-to-have-it-both-ways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mauritiustimes.com\/mt\/the-democrats-want-to-have-it-both-ways\/","title":{"rendered":"The Democrats want to have it both ways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><u>Forum<\/u><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To get elected, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris needs the political support of the Arab-, Muslim- and Palestinian-American electorate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Yet, for the last year or so, the current administration, of which she is vice president, seems to have been essentially saying to the Israeli government and\/or Israel Defense Forces: \u2018Here are our best bombs for your unconditional use, as per usual; but, for the political and media record: please do not use them against non-combatant civilians.\u2019 \u2026 Israel\u2019s reply seems to have been, \u2018Duly noted\u2019, while continuing its bloody business as usual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0When the administration had finally called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza in April, the timing gave it the strong odor of political expediency \u2014 for re-election purposes. Since then, there&#8217;s been multiple requests for ceasefires by Biden, yet while continuing to fully arm thus enable Israel to do essentially as it deems fit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Both back then as well as now, a sizable chunk of traditionally Democrat voters \u2014 adamantly against and angry about the intentional large-scale starvation and mass slaughter by Israel against Palestinian non-combatants \u2014 credibly threaten to punish Biden through presidential candidate Kamala Harris at the ballot box.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Judging from their passion and the seriousness of the human crisis involved, it&#8217;s doubtful the most adamantly pro-Palestinian and anti-war demonstrators and voters will compromise, sell their souls, by politically forgiving Biden thus Harris come election day for the very consequential stance he took\/takes, especially in continuing to provide Israel with the mass-casualty weaponry being used against Palestinian non-combatants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">*\u00a0 *\u00a0 *<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A Palestinian-American briefly interviewed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation&#8217;s TV news channel about ten days ago said she was actually going to cast her ballot for Trump this election instead of her usual vote for the Democratic candidate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Why exactly, she didn\u2019t specify, other than the obvious Biden\/Harris administration\u2019s unconditional arming of Israel\u2019s mind-bogglingly massive starvation, sickening and slaughter of Palestinians over the last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, it\u2019s likely also due to the Democrats\u2019 neo or phoney liberalism on this great-human-disaster issue: they should be well above Trump&#8217;s unconditionally pro-Israel foreign policy. (Recall, for example, that he even appointed his Jewish son-in-law to head his administration\u2019s Middle East \u201cpeace\u201d efforts, which is a bit of a conflict of interest on his son-in-law\u2019s part.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But the Democrats are not much or not at all above Trump\u2019s as well as the Republican party\u2019s transparent, very-long-standing thus expected unconditional political and military-arms support of Israel.
