The fading out call liberation in masters\u2019 mentation<\/span><\/p>\n

Alternative labour speculation, Indenture in impregnation <\/span><\/p>\n

1833 <\/span><\/strong>Fake Death Certificate of Slavery was crucified<\/span><\/p>\n

Pretentious Birth Certificate of Indenture was certified<\/span><\/p>\n

Wine remained the same, bottle remained the same<\/span><\/p>\n

Stickers were changed, Trade mark was changed<\/span><\/p>\n

1834 <\/span><\/strong>Started first Great Experiment on Indenture in Mauritius<\/span><\/p>\n

Departed Atlas with immigrants on board from Calcutta<\/span><\/p>\n

Horrorful Voyage, rough waves, dreadful kala pani<\/span><\/p>\n

Dreams but worth dreaming, rose garden, golden stone<\/span><\/p>\n

What was in wait, weighed healthier than sea-sickness<\/span><\/p>\n

Jahaji bhai by side, whippers before sight, Geeta\/Koran wrapped in hide<\/span><\/p>\n

Ramayana, Tirukkural, Satya Prakash though sealed in luggage<\/span><\/p>\n

Invoked vibes of courage, patience, endurance and hope<\/span><\/p>\n

Many died, despite doctors on ship<\/span><\/p>\n

Wept their comrades, smiled the sharks below the ship<\/span><\/p>\n

Dead thrown in deep salted water, dying ones dumped on Flat Island<\/span><\/p>\n

Survival landed at harbour, Port- Louis, Mauritius Island<\/span><\/p>\n

Cattle like disembarked, registered and numbered<\/span><\/p>\n

48 hours after, into sugar camps to discover fate in reserve<\/span><\/p>\n

Ignited there from, Indenture, so called free labour against forced labour<\/span><\/p>\n

Slavery was re-born and baptized as Indenture<\/span><\/p>\n

Slavery was cosmetised with wage for this venture<\/span><\/p>\n

Sun not setting in Colonial Empire, darkness settled on Indenture<\/span><\/p>\n

1860-1885 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

110,000 complaints lodged in Colonial Court for non-payment of wages<\/span><\/p>\n

Justice remained under trial, double cut system continued chopping wages<\/span><\/p>\n

1871 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Racial discrimination, De Plevitz petitioned, 9400 signed<\/span><\/p>\n

Colonial Police insensitive, Administrative Authorities declined<\/span><\/p>\n

1834-1922 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

300,000 arrests as vagrants, right of freedom denied<\/span><\/p>\n

Frequent vagrant hunts, like hunters behind forest animals <\/span><\/p>\n

Immigrant Pass compulsory, confinement to camps mandatory<\/span><\/p>\n

Thousands died out of cruel treatment, harsh working conditions<\/span><\/p>\n

More than hundreds committed suicide out of no hope for any hope<\/span><\/p>\n

1870-1920 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cheated on cane weight, looted on land acquisition price<\/span><\/p>\n

Exploited from rise to sunset, deprived of food healthy rice<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet preserved tradition and culture, sang and dance in midst of turmoil<\/span><\/p>\n

Mother tongue downgraded, attempt to obliterate, survived yet till day<\/span><\/p>\n

1901 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ray of hope dawn out of blue, Mohandass Karamchand Gandhi transited<\/span><\/p>\n

Stock of the Indenture plight came to light, M.K Gandhi was overwhelmed<\/span><\/p>\n

1906<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gandhi sent Maganlal Manilal Doctor, dynamic French-speaking barrister<\/span><\/p>\n

Began the beginning of Indenture\u2019s end, started the non-violent Andolan<\/span><\/p>\n

Fundamental human rights and needs, became the struggle targets<\/span><\/p>\n

The pilgrimage stick of Manilal Doctor united the divided indentured Labourers<\/span><\/p>\n

Hard work, savings culture, fraternity and unity in diversity were inculcated<\/span><\/p>\n

Vital imperativeness of Education, keen interest in local politics transmitted <\/span>Baithka, Maqtab took form to inform essentials of existential realities<\/span><\/p>\n

A New Era started, nourishing in its womb the seed of freedom<\/span><\/p>\n

1909<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Royal Commission under international pressure <\/span><\/p>\n

Recommended Termination of the Indenture System<\/span><\/p>\n

1910 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The last ship Sudara landed at Aapravasi Ghat <\/span><\/p>\n

With the last batch of indentured immigrants<\/span><\/p>\n

And thus ended officially the Saga of Indenture<\/span><\/p>\n

1910-1968 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

But the hangover continued <\/span><\/p>\n

The old habit of exploitation continued<\/span><\/p>\n

And so the Andolan, the struggle continued<\/span><\/p>\n

Voting rights were denied, the Labour Party was born<\/span><\/p>\n

The proletariat movement gained momentum<\/span><\/p>\n

And thus was paved the way to Independence\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
