‘My Practical Dictionary (Hindi-English & English-Hindi)’, compiled by Vijaye and Meenakshi Beeharry was launched Saturday last. For having gone through it and based on my experience gained after years of teaching in the secondary school sector, I have no hesitation in recommending this two-volume dictionary not only to students of Hindi but also to the general public.
The authors, who are widely known for their dedication to Hindi and to social work at grassroots level, have made every effort to render the learning of Hindi easy for all. This is why I personally consider this dictionary to be very user-friendly and practical as its title itself suggests. It will be particularly helpful for Form IV, V and VI students offering Hindi as an examination subject, especially as regards their Translation Components at various levels, as it comprises a vast vocabulary and a long list of common words that students usually look for in their translation exercises. Moreover the selected expressions listed in the dictionary will certainly help for their essay writing exercises as well.
‘My Practical Dictionary – Hindi-English & English-Hindi’ (250 pages) is available in all leading bookshops, at Rs 200. I strongly recommend this dictionary to teachers and students as well as to the public at large.
