Obituary: Dr Santosh Soowamber

Obituary

Dr Jawaharlal (Santosh) Soowamber, son of the late Mr Laichand Soowamber, ex-Postmaster general and Mrs Jayuntee Seeburun, passed away suddenly on December 13th.

His demise was a shock to all of us as he would show his presence through videocalls regularly.

After high school at Royal College Port Louis, Santosh got a BSc. Degree in biochemistry from McGill University in Montreal. He would go on to study medicine at Marseille in France and specialize in psychiatry.

With all his degrees and achievements, he considered humility as the end point of education. He was kind, loving and generous. He spread love and people would gather around him to listen to his never-ending stories. However, he never hesitated to put himself in hot water to protect someone who is right.

Even on holidays, his patients would call him on his cellphone and he would respond with a smile. His love of life and family had no boundaries. He will never bid us farewell as he will continue to live in our hearts.

A cremation ceremony will be held in Marseille on December 21st.

Life ends but love does not.

With lots of love from his wife Sheela, his daughters Karishma and Raveena and the entire family.

An Appeal

Dear Reader

65 years ago Mauritius Times was founded with a resolve to fight for justice and fairness and the advancement of the public good. It has never deviated from this principle no matter how daunting the challenges and how costly the price it has had to pay at different times of our history.

With print journalism struggling to keep afloat due to falling advertising revenues and the wide availability of free sources of information, it is crucially important for the Mauritius Times to survive and prosper. We can only continue doing it with the support of our readers.

The best way you can support our efforts is to take a subscription or by making a recurring donation through a Standing Order to our non-profit Foundation.
Thank you.
