More Light on Particle Physics

By Jagadish Manrakhan

At CERN, 13 December 2011, two independent teams found tentative signs in practice that might indicate the Higgs’ Boson, in accordance with the theory of the Standard Model of Particle Physics within acceptable Space-Time characteristics – bringing considerable satisfaction to all those involved.

Whether that heavy particle actually exists or not, remains a moot point on which CERN will ponder and act upon for at least the next 12 months.

There are many other relevant features that warrant further consideration:

Let us mention three of those:

  1. The impact of faster-than-light on the Standard Model itself, reported upon previously (still on probation, as it were)
  2. Whither ‘luminiferous’ ether and the elusive dark matter forming 90 to 99% of the Universe?
  3. Parallel Universes (beyond ‘science-fiction).

An Appeal

Dear Reader

65 years ago Mauritius Times was founded with a resolve to fight for justice and fairness and the advancement of the public good. It has never deviated from this principle no matter how daunting the challenges and how costly the price it has had to pay at different times of our history.

With print journalism struggling to keep afloat due to falling advertising revenues and the wide availability of free sources of information, it is crucially important for the Mauritius Times to survive and prosper. We can only continue doing it with the support of our readers.

The best way you can support our efforts is to take a subscription or by making a recurring donation through a Standing Order to our non-profit Foundation.
Thank you.
