No doubt the most popular.
After medical studies in England,
This young doctor came to serve his island
A modest born but strong politician
The Saviour of the developing nation
“Chacha” he became for all Mauritians
Young and old, Indians, Europeans,
Respected, admired, saluted this man
Who dared ask, make us independent
Very soon a prominent national figure
Social justice, he proclaimed ever after
“Sir Seewoosagur”, the title well suited him
Life went on, struggling, coaxing, respecting.
European civilisation joined hands
With values and feelings Indian
Which made this leader of the oppressed
Among many gentlemen, the best.
Gandhi’s famous non-violence
Luther King’s appropriate tolerance
J.F. Kennedy’s vision and foresight
Nehru’s fights for equal rights
All eventually mixed together
To perfectly mould our First Prime Minister.
