American degrees in Mauritius: JSS Academy teams up with IOWA Wesleyan University

The JSS Academy of Technical Education situated in Bonne Terre, Vacoas and operating under the aegis of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore, India, has scored a momentous achievement!

Working together with its marketing partner True Global (an international education services company) and Iowa Wesleyan University, from Iowa USA, JSS will start offering full American Degrees in Mauritius. This is the first time that reputable American qualifications can be obtained in Mauritius through the normal classroom process.

This venture has been in the making for the last 18 months, and has finally received the necessary approvals from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to be able to be announced. “It is planned to start student admissions shortly,” Dr Praveen Mohadeb, CEO of JSS Academy, announced recently.
Starting with six programs, in Graduate and Under-Graduate studies this year, and with ambitions to offer more, JSS will now offer both overseas and Mauritian students (who were intending to study in the US) a real cost effective alternative.

The programs are competitively priced, and are aimed at both International students and Mauritian students desiring to have a genuine American qualification (considered an invaluable option, if you seek a career and/or employment opportunities in North America), says Dr Mohadeb.

“Why study in the USA when you can get a reputable American qualification right here at home at less than half the overall cost!’ remarks Thomas Qureshi, the True Global representative working on the project and involved in marketing theses new programs internationally.

“We have brought quality American education here, and done away with American visa issues, the high tuition fees and overseas living expenses and of course added the security of home. Mauritian students can now study and get a reputable American qualification. We have taken away the frustrations of distance from home for both students and their parents,” he adds.

The new programs will particularly appeal to students from India, Africa, China, Bangladesh and other Asian countries too. According to JSS, the new course offerings would be attractive for several reasons to overseas students; amongst these are the ease of obtaining visa (in comparison to US I20), the huge financial advantage (much lower fees, lower cost of living, etc.) would mean the overall cost would be about half of what the same education would cost in the USA; this together with ease of travel, closeness to home and the excellent purpose built JSS Campus (located in Vacoas) would make it a sensible decision for astute parents and students themselves!

Dr Mohadeb states that “we intend to make the highly regarded IW Post Graduate Management and Leadership program, also available via evening classes (to make it attractive to working professionals in Mauritius)”.
The proposed undergraduate programs include BSC qualifications in Biology, Accounting, Business, Psychology and Criminal Justice (awaiting approval).

Iowa Wesleyan University (IW) is a well-known Midwest American institution. Established over 175 years ago, it boasts a rich history tracing its origins to President Lincoln’s family.  With full approval from HLC (Higher Learning Commission) in the USA, the IW degrees are well respected and recognized both in the USA and Internationally!

JSS Academy is the first private post-secondary education institution operating as an Engineering College in Mauritius since 2006. Recognizing the International demand for Humanities and other Social Science and Science subjects, it has now diversified its portfolio of programs to include these non-engineering disciplines as well.  Moreover JSS Academy is duly registered with the TEC, and all its programs are accredited by the latter. It is also registered with the Mauritius Qualifications Authority.

JSS Academy is located on an extensive purpose-built campus on 8 acres situated at Droopnath Ramphul Avenue, Bonne Terre, Vacoas. The campus comprises some 15,000 sq. m of built up area; it also comprises of purpose-built residential facilities (hostels) for boys and girls.
